Buzzards Bay Yacht Charters (BBYC) specializes in creating unforgettable boating experiences on our private charters. Whether you wish to sit back and soak up the views or take the helm and try your hand at boating, charters with BBYC provide the perfect ocean adventure.
Charters are available on our powerboat Petrel and our sailboat Omoo. All trips have a maximum capacity of six guests. Private charters can be booked from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and run from two hours to all day.
All of our trips are led by our experienced captains and can be tailored to your party’s specific needs. Possible itineraries include relaxed sunset picnic cruises motoring along the Buzzards Bay coast, day trips to Hadley’s or Pocasset Harbor, and rides out to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Picnic Cruises on Petrel
Our motor vessel Petrel is the perfect option for a gentle cruise along the shore or a fast trip out to Cape Cod and the Elizabeth Islands. Petrel is a classic 29-foot picnic/bass boat built locally by Dyer Boats in Warren, RI. She offers ample cockpit space to relax, enjoy the views, and share your favorite drinks and hors d’ouvres.
Charter durations depend on your desired itinerary. Looking to motor across the bay to the Tarpaulin Cove for a swim and a picnic? One of our longer charters will be necessary. Or perhaps a sunset cocktail hour along the Mattapoisett Harbor shoreline? A two-hour trip will be plenty! Contact us to help plan your perfect itinerary.

Where your charter will go
The route of a charter depends on many factors. Wind, currents, weather, and the duration of the charter all impact our itineraries.
Where are we located?
Private motorboat charters on Petrel are run out of the Mattapoisett Boatyard at 32 Ned’s Point Mattapoisett, MA. Parking at the boatyard is plentiful. Simply walk to the launch dock and come out on the free, provided water taxi to Petrel where you will be greeted by your crew!
Private sailboat charters on Petrel are run out of Cisco Brewers Kitchen & Bar at 482 E Rodney French Blvd New Bedford, MA. Parking at Cisco is plentiful. Simply walk to the bottom of the lawn at Cisco to the dock where you will be greeted by your crew and shuttled out to Omoo!
Group size
Private charters are available on Omoo and Petrel for groups of between one and six guests.
Trip duration

What to bring
We recommend bringing sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and any personal items you may need. Comfortable clothing and non-slip shoes are also advised. Snacks and beverages are welcome, but alcohol consumption should be in moderation.
Food and drinks
You are encouraged to bring your own food and beverages. Water and/or seltzer will be provided. If you bring alcohol, only beer, wine, and other non-liquor beverages will be allowed on board. Buzzards Bay Yacht Charters reserves the right to cancel or suspend any charter without a refund due to overly intoxicated guests.
Bathrooms
There are marine heads onboard both Omoo and Petrel.

Making a reservation is easy! Simply visit our website, choose your preferred charter, and follow the booking instructions. If you have specific requirements or questions, feel free to reach out to us directly.
Cancellation Policy and Weather
Private Charters: Tickets aboard private charters are valid only for the date and time purchased. Cancellations made at least 10 days prior to departure will receive a 100% refund. If you cancel at least 5 days before departure a credit on another date will be provided. No refunds or credit will be given on cancellations made within 4 days of departure.
Weather Cancellations: The final decision to sail due to weather conditions resides with Buzzards Bay Yacht Charters, LLC. If your scheduled sail is called due to adverse weather conditions, you will receive a full refund, a credit for another date or you may give a gift certificate to share with a friend.
Our sails will run in light to moderately inclement weather. Don’t worry, we won’t send you out in heavy or steady rain, thick fog, high winds, or if the weather appears threatening. We will sail in cloudy, cold, or overcast conditions, so be sure to dress appropriately for the forecasted weather. When the weather looks questionable, we’ll check the radar before we leave and make sure conditions are safe.
Sailing Charters on Omoo
A fun afternoon sail in New Bedford Harbor and Buzzards Bay offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Departing from the Cisco's Brewery & Kitchen dock, you glide past working fishing boats and classic schooners before catching a steady breeze out into the open waters of Buzzards Bay. The bay’s wide expanse and reliable southwest winds make for smooth, spirited sailing, with views of the Elizabeth Islands and distant lighthouses. Along the way, you might spot seabirds, seals, or even a passing pod of dolphins. As the sun dips low, the golden light reflects off the water, making for a truly unforgettable coastal escape.
We will have a cooler with water and seltzer. If you would like to bring something, there is plenty of storage space below. No hard alcohol allowed. If passengers are intoxicated, the captain may cancel the sail without refund at their discretion. Plan your day accordingly; come for a sail first, then enjoy all that Cisco's has to offer.
